Coins were minted in various towns of large and small states and principalities founded by the Turks who settled in the Middle East and Anatolia since the 9th century, and the places where coins were minted were called "Darphane(Mints)" for a long time.
Until the introduction of the gold sultani in the last quarter of the 15th century, Ottoman coins consisted of silver coins and copper coins. Akce or akca is the basic unit of account, and the first coins were minted in Bursa, Edirne and the Marmara basin without specifying their place of minting and they were circulated together with the coins of other Turkmen principalities.
